Terrace Talks: Hayden

Hi Hayden! Tell us a little about yourself.
“I am married with two kids, ages 4 and 7. Right now, we do a lot of after school baseball and ballet, and we enjoy participating in activities with our church family at Mabel White.”

What is your favorite thing about being in the cosmetology industry?
“I love meeting new people, and actually getting to know those people, not just ‘hey, let’s get it done.’ I really enjoy cutting. I love color, of course, but cutting is what I love. Short, funky haircuts are a fun challenge.”

Tell us a little bit about your Signature life:
“I really enjoy being here and I’ve made a lot of friends just by coming to work here. I took time off from doing hair after having my kids and I really missed it. I tried to keep up with trends and techniques while away, because this industry changes so quickly. So when I was ready to come back, I started taking my resume to salons in the area, but I already knew that Signature Salon was where I wanted to be. This was the very last place I tried thinking there was no way I would get hired. And Nichole was the only person to call me back!”

What made you decide to be a hair stylist?
“When I was younger, I would cut my friends’ hair. I didn’t know what I was doing at the time, but it would look decent! I knew that I was interested in cosmetology, but my parents initially really wanted me to go to college. After looking at some programs though, I just knew that I couldn’t do that. Especially not right out of high school, I just wasn’t ready for a big college experience. I told my mom that I really wanted to pursue doing hair and she signed me up for classes the month after I graduated. She said if I was going to do that instead of a 4 year college, that I was going to do it right then! And when I got there and was in classes, I knew that this was home. I felt really comfortable there.”

What is something that you like to do to in your off time?
“Whenever I have my own free time, I like to buy old furniture and fix it up. I have quite a few garage projects right now! A lot of the furniture in our house are pieces that I have picked up and refurbished.”
