Hi Olivia! Tell us a little about yourself:
“I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Georgia in 2008. My whole family moved down here for business. At the time, I was studying Criminal Justice and wasn’t sure if it was the right fit for me. My sister does hair and I was always really interested in what she did. My first job after moving was working the front desk in the salon where my sister worked.”
What made you decide to be a hair stylist?
“After working the front desk at the salon my sister worked in, I would see how awesome each client felt after their service. I loved seeing how a color could change them, how a cut could change them. The other thing that really led me to love this industry is the science behind it, especially the color formulas. It’s chemistry! For a while there I kept tossing the idea of being a hair stylist back and forth. My family is very supportive, but at the time they definitely already had an idea of a career for me. I was worried that if I changed paths, I would upset them, but when I spoke with them about going back to school for cosmetology, they were great! And I wish I had done it sooner!”
What’s your favorite thing about the cosmetology industry?
“Technically, I love balayage. I also love learning about the different Redken products to achieve the look you want for each individual guest’s needs. With any hairpainting technique, you get to be a little more creative, and customize the look for your guest versus a traditional foil pattern. And then the guests are the reason I come back day in and day out. I love my guests. I love seeing how just a simple cut or color can make someone grin from ear to ear!”
What has been one of your biggest inspirations in this business?
“Honestly? Signature Salon. There are Educators here who are willing to help and teach and give back. That’s really inspiring to me. Everyone here accepts you with open arms, and if you need help, they are there. We are all here to help motivate and encourage each other. I love all the classes that we do here. Everything combined is really inspiring. We are different here and that’s what I like. It’s not just ‘come to work, do it, and you’re done.’ It’s ‘Why are you doing what you’re doing? How could we do it better?’ We take pride in what we do and in our clients, because without our clients, we wouldn’t be Signature.”
Tell us a little bit about your Signature life:
“I am forever evolving at Signature. You never just know everything. I mean, there is always something new every single day that you can learn. So, I am growing every single day. And yeah sometimes there are hard setbacks, but you’re going to get that in life. Life is not easy. But the more I am here, the more I am growing, the more experience I am getting, the more knowledge I am taking in. I gain a little bit from everyone here because everyone does things a little bit differently. I think everyone should be proud to be here. I am definitely proud to be here. I wanted to work for a salon team that is invested in us; that wants to see us grow and succeed. I love that we have goals to look forward to for our future.”
What is something you like to do in your off time?
“I like to spend time with my boyfriend, Kenan, and our dogs. We love to hang out with friends, go fishing at my parents’ pond, build bonfires in the Fall. I personally love to watch all the reality tv shows, the Housewives are definitely my guilty pleasure! I just can’t get enough of it!”
What is something that some people may not know about you?
“I speak Romanian! My parents are from Romania and speak to me all the time in Romanian. I’m bad about just responding in English, but I do speak it, it just comes out a little funky! I am the only one of their children that wasn’t born in Romania. My father left Romania, moved to Italy, came to America to start a business, and then reunited with my mother and sister when they made it to America. My sister actually helped teach my parents English, but we also learned a lot from watching ‘Days of Our Lives’ growing up!”
