The same UVA and UVB rays that damage our skin also are damaging to our hair! Overexposure can cause dryness, discoloration, breakage and frizziness. While it’s true that the sun can make our “highlights pop”, it’s not necessarily your color’s BFF. The sun’s rays act the same a bleach would, reacting with the melanin in your hair, permanently removing it’s color. Your hair is even more vulnerable when its wet.
So how can you protect your hair from damage and still enjoy fun in the sun?
- If you are swimming in a chlorinated pool, be sure to rinse your hair with clear water after leaving the pool. Allowing your hair to dry with chlorine on your strands drys out your cuticle and can turn beautiful blonde to grimy green.
